In a special Mother’s Day liturgy on Friday 8 May 2015, Holy Family Primary, Granville East remembered a mother to us all Sr. Carmel Fittler who sadly passed away in January after a 19-year battle with breast cancer.

During her funeral service at the end of January, a Children’s Bible was placed on her coffin by Sr. Patricia Robinson who had taught Carmel in Kindergarten and on Friday the same Children’s Bible was donated to the school.

As one of the symbols of Carmel’s life, the Ursuline Sisters felt Carmel would have loved for the Children’s Bible to be given to the school where she had been so passionate about the work she was doing as the Religious Education Coordinator from 2003-2010.

Sr. Patty, who gifted the Bible to the school, spoke about how much Carmel appreciated being able to support the teachers especially with their Religious Education teaching.

‘Carmel loved coming to Holy Family School,’ Sr. Patty said. ‘She was very committed to educating young people in the faith and she herself had a deep appreciation of the Word of God, it guided her life.’
